Victorian awnings at The Waldorf

Victorian awnings at The Waldorf

27 Jun 2020

This series of twelve Victorian awnings at The Waldorf Hilton hotel in Aldwych feature a number of special  enhancements exclusive to this particular installation. The Victorian awnings themselves are, as always,   constructed using the finest seasoned, harvested, hardwoods and are  painted with an environmentally friendly water based paint. The timber work has been coloured to match the building and all metalwork is powder coated  in accurate Victorian style black for resilience to degradation through weather und use.

However the bespoke circular side fixing brackets were manufactured in our own factory and the distinctive Gold Lead graphic was created by means of the Morco developed RAGS® branding process.

The Waldorf (now Waldorf Hilton), London, opened in 1908. It opened with 400 bedrooms, 176 bathrooms and a range of innovative (for the time) features – a telephone and electric lights that could be switched off at the bedside in all rooms, three elevators and central heating. The Waldorf has a 190-foot curving facade made of Aberdeen granite with a frieze of cherubs depicting the arts and sciences. Originally built with a Gentlemen's Smoking room (now the Executive Boardroom), a billiard room (now the Executive Lounge), a ladies writing room (now the Aldwych meeting room) and a 300 ft. dining space which is now the Adelphi Suite.
