Victorian awning French Sole

Victorian awning for French Sole, Covent Garden

2 Feb 2019

Morco have manufactured  traditional Victorian awnings in London since 1956 and are now recognised as the leading installer of this type of traditional awning. However, this reputation extends far beyond the Capital across the whole of the United Kingdom and beyond. Our traditional manufacturing methods are complimented by the use of modern tooling and technology to ensure that, not only do these awnings meet the design criteria dictated by the original awning style, but the use of modern components, where appropriate, gives the product an enhanced integrity and greater life. Despite the name, French Sole,  applied to this particular awning  using our bespoke RAGS® branding system, this particular awning is installed on the premises of the unique London Shoe Designer, French Sole.

French Sole was created in 1989 selling through Charity Fairs and then via Mail Order. The founder, Jane Winkworth, made her own "ballet flats to her very own designs with beautifully contrasting trims and colours never seen before which ultimately led to the famous range, manufactured by top crafts persons and now available across the Globe.

Floral Street was originally known as Hart Street but its name was  changed to the current name in 1895 to reflect the market trade though the street itself was mainly used by tradesmen associated with the fruit market. The main point of architectural note is the helix-shaped walkway which connects the Royal Ballet School with the main opera house building. It was designed by Wilkinson Eyre to represent the fluid grace of the prima ballerina.  The presence of French Sole and their connection with ballet style shoes may not be a coincidence.
