This stylish panel canopy has been specially designed in our London workshop for The Berners Tavern on Berners Street. The Panel Canopy presents a modern, minimalist, look whilst retaining the strength required for the vagaries of our weather. The panel framework is concealed between fabric panels with outer trim and arms in a stainless steel though , in this case, a powder coated black finish was considered more appropriate. This canopy is non-retracting and requires little or no maintenance. The white corporate text appearing on the awning was produced in our own graphics department.
Having been awarded the GQ best restaurant interior in 2015, the AA restaurant of the year in 2014 and the Elle decoration best British interior award 2014 Berners is truly exceptional. Visitors cannot fail to be stunned by the lobby which is a marvel of flamboyant stucco-work, marble pillars and huge dimensions bringing out elements of a huge railway station or magnificent palace in the style of Versailles. The restaurant itself is even more impressive, being filled with pictures and glorious lighting which is so flamboyant as to be almost a parody of a restaurant rather than the real thing.
Berners Street was developed in the 18th Century and named after the Landlord owners Estate. It was particularly well known by the author Charles Dickens as his maternal great aunt, Mrs Charles Charlton ran a lodging house at number 16. Apart from installing his young lover, Nelly, at number 31 Charles Dickens was also reputed to have based his character, Miss Haversham, on a particularly dotty elderly lady who frequently promenaded in a wedding dress and veil; apparently in regret at being stood up at the altar by a wealthy Quaker.
