These three stunning Marlesbury awnings have been installed on the Floral Street entrance to the newly opened Arket in Covent Garden. The all white awnings look particularly striking with their cloud grey iron work and hard wood boxes. We have applied the Arket logo in black to the valances completing the ensemble on this prestigious location. If you would like to see how your business could look with Marlesbury awnings installed please give us a call and our design department can create renderings at modest cost.
Arket, is an entirely new concept in retail shopping developed by H&M and recently opened it's first store on Regent Street in central London. The spacious surroundings contain tables which are laid with individual items, rather than stacked in untidy piles. The flooring is treated to resemble cobbles or gravel, while the cabinets and paintwork are in a soft cloud-grey that makes the building to give the continued open air feeling. This creates an effect which is more like wandering through an open-air market than a fast-fashion shop. Not all the shelves are filled and it feels very airy. There is also a small café selling coffees and a selection of salads.
Floral Street was originally called Hart Street but it changed to the current name in 1895 to reflect the market trade. The street itself was mainly used by tradesmen associated with the fruit market. Originally the street was a cul-de-sac and at its peak during the 18th century there were no fewer than eleven pubs on the road and many houses of a somewhat dubious nature. The main point of architectural note is the helix-shaped walkway which connects the Royal Ballet School with the main opera house building. It was designed by Wilkinson Eyre to represent the fluid grace of the prima ballerina.
