Linked Victorian awnings for The Beaverbrook Hotel, Leatherhead

30 May 2019

These Victorian awnings at The Beaverbrook Hotel in Leatherhead include a rather special feature in the form of junction covers linking the three awnings which thereby provide continuous cover over a wide area. Junction covers were a frequent installation in years past on Victorian awning as this type of awning has a width limited by the availability of suitable long timbers. Today, most long awnings are made from aluminium so one piece awnings are easily manufactured. However, in this case the historic nature of the location required that we use appropriate traditional awnings.

The concept of junction rollers on multiple Victorian awnings has almost been lost to our industry but our fifty plus years in the business ensures we retain the skills to be able to accommodate such technical demands. The junction rollers are encased within their own matching neat awning boxes and are operated by spring rollers so that they can  extend and retract as required. At Morco we specialise in unusual and bespoke solutions and especially welcome those projects which require us to reach into the filing cabinets to retrieve original drawings, which we retain so that we can maintain our awning heritage.

The Beaverbrook Hotels was originally called Cherkley Court and was acquired in 1910 by Lord Beaverbrook, politician and owner of the Express Newspapers group, and he lived there for the next fifty years.
