Greenwich awning for Mayther, Horseferry Road

14 Mar 2019

The simplicity of design on this Greenwich awning we have recently installed at Mayther on Horseferry Road gives nothing away in respect of what you might find within the shop. The simplicity of signage encourages further investigation and one is tempted, out of curiosity, to see just what is behind the new smart awning we have just installed in this crisp white fabric. In fact, Mayther is a card and gift shop, but not just any old card and gift shop. This establishment focuses on sophistication and quality; offering all sorts of items from cards to pens to diaries but all of the very highest quality. Even the pencils displayed in smart, colour coded, boxes are sharpened to an assegai like point.

Our Greenwich awning was the ideal finish to the Horseferry Road shopfront with its simplicity of design incorporating a front profile, which is completely covered by the white fabric, creating an ethereal sensation of the awning cover seeming to float in free space. The frame work of the Greenwich awning is powder coated black and the design, which reflects the style of traditional Continental awnings, is nevertheless constructed from modern materials which provide an unfadiing form and function to the shopfront facade.

Horseferry Road takes its name  from the ferry which existed on the site of what is now Lambeth Bridge.  Owned by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the ferry was an important crossing over the Thames, from Westminster Palace to Lambeth Palace. The earliest known reference to the ferry dates to 1513, but there may well have been similar ferries nearby much earlier.  King James II started his escape via the ferry in 1689 to start his eleven year exile in France.
