Customised Bellfort Awning® Chosen For Leeds Dock

Leeds Dock is one of the North of England’s latest urban regeneration sites, providing contemporary and stylish waterside living, dining and work spaces in the heart of the city.

Morco’s involvement was to provide an awning solution for the commercial spaces on the riverfront.  An exposed space like the Dock does create a challenge in terms of effectively combining aesthetics and practicality.

Working closely with the architect, the final result was hybrid and highly bespoke.  We utilised the retractable roof system from our Bellfort Awning® terrace awning combined with our Rib Panel® canopy to create a fixed valance ideal for branding.  We then built triangular panels to match the valances to provide a tensile finish at the framework ends.

The Fremantle retractable roof system has remarkable strength, able to withstand winds of up to 120kph.  Not only is the system incredibly durable, but also uses a special perforated fabric developed to be translucent, letting in natural light, while maintaining full water resistance.

In total, we created 14 independent systems for the project, one of the final stages of this large development.
